PROGRAM REGULATIONS

3. DURATION OF THE PROGRAM:

3.1 The minimum and maximum period for completion of the PGDM Program are given below:

3.2 Each Trimester shall normally consist of 60 working days or 360 hours. The Head of the Institution shall ensure that every teacher imparts instruction as per the number of periods specified in the syllabus and that the teacher teaches the full content of the specified syllabus for the course being taught. End of the Trimester Examination will ordinarily follow immediately after the last working day of the Trimester.

3. STRUCTURE OF THE PROGRAM

3.1.0 The PGDM Program will have a curriculum and syllabi consisting of core courses, elective courses and project work.
The Program may also include seminars /Field training/ practical training as specified in the curriculum.

3.1.1 The electives to be offered in particular batch are to be decided of the Board of Studies.

3.1.2 Summer Internship/Corporate Exposure Training (CET) specified in the Curriculum, shall be of not less than 8 weeks duration during the Summer Vacation between the first and second year. The CET is equivalent to one course and carries 50 Marks for CET Report and 50 Marks for Viva-Voce.

3.1.3 The medium of instruction, examination, assignments and project report shall be in English.

4. Maximum Marks

4.1.0 The maximum marks assigned to different courses shall be as given below:
Each of the theory and practical courses (excluding project work) shall carry maximum of 100 marks of which 50 marks will be through internal assessment.

4.1.1 The Practical Training course related projects field assignments shall be evaluated through internal assessment.

5. Project Dissertation

5.1.0 Project Dissertation is an in-depth industry based study to be conducted by the student during the V Trimester in which there is no course work. The student will be spending 60 days and carryout an intensive study a part of which will be survey based under the supervision of a qualified faculty member. The study is normally designed in accordance with the needs of the company in which the student is placed.

5.1.1. The project dissertation of PGDM program shall carry 300 marks of which 100 marks will be through internal assessment. External Assessment will be carried for 200 marks- 100 marks for dissertation report and 100 marks for viva-voce examination held at the end of the Sixth Trimester.

5.1.2 There shall be two assessments (each 50 marks), by a review committee. The student shall make presentation on the progress made before the committee. The Head of the Institution shall constitute the review committee.

5.1.3 The dissertation shall be prepared according to approved guidelines and duly signed by the supervisor(s) shall be submitted within stipulated time.

5.1.4 If a candidate fails to submit the project report on or before the specified deadline, he/she is deemed to have failed in the Project Work and shall re- register for the same in a subsequent Trimester.

5.1.5 Every candidate doing PGDM shall, based on his/her project work, send a paper for publication (after obtaining necessary permissions) in a journal or a conference in which full papers are published after usual review.
An acknowledgement for having communicated to the journal or conference shall be attached to the report of the project work.

5.1.6 A hard copy and soft copy of the approved project report shall be kept in the library of the institute.

Improvement

A student who has passed all the courses prescribed in the curriculum for the award of the PG Diploma shall not be permitted to re-enroll to improve his/her marks in a course or the aggregate marks.

6. Faculty Mentor

To help the students in planning their courses of study and for general advice on the academic program, the Head of the Institute allots and will attach a certain number of students to a every faculty member of the Institute who shall support the student as a Mentor for those students throughout their period of study. The faculty member shall advise the students and monitor the courses taken by the students, check the attendance and progress of the students attached to him/her and counsel them periodically. If necessary, the faculty member may also discuss with or inform the parents about the progress of the students.

7. PROCEDURES FOR AWARDING MARKS FOR INTERNAL ASSESSMENT

7.0 Every faculty member is required to maintain an 'ATTENDANCE AND ASSESSMENT RECORD' which consists of attendance marked in each lecture or practical or project work session, the test marks and the record of class work (topic covered), separately for each course. This should be submitted to the Director periodically (at least three times in a Trimester) for checking the syllabus coverage and the records of test marks and attendance. The Program Coordinator will put his signature and date after due verification. At the end the Trimester, the record should be verified by the Director. The records of internal assessment shall be maintained till the batch completes the program and diplomas are awarded(for a maximum period of two years).

7.1 Theory Courses:

Every Trimester two tests in each subject carrying 100 marks shall be conducted by the Institute. The total marks obtained in both the tests put together out of 200, shall be reduced to 20 marks and rounded to the nearest integer (This implies equal weightage to both the tests).

7.2 Practical Sessions :

Every practical exercise / experiment shall be evaluated based on conduct of experiment / exercise and records maintained. There shall be at least one mid-Trimester test. The criteria for arriving at the internal assessment marks shall be decided by the Head of the Institution and shall be announced at the beginning of every Trimester.

7.3 Components of Internal Assessment and computation: In total there are seven components of internal assessment.

There will be two class tests in each subject with a weightage of 10 marks each and every student will be required to submit three assignments in each subject which will carry 10 marks weightage each. In this written component of internal assessment 80% will be taken. That is written component is for 40 marks. The remaining 10 marks will be allocated 5 marks each for attendance and class performance, thus making the total of internal assessment to 50 marks in each subject.

8. Evaluation and Grading

The Institute follows the concept of credit to define the weightage of a course in the curriculum. Courses are classified as one two three credit courses depending upon the expected workload for each course.

8.1 Evaluation :

The evaluation procedures consist of course-wise evaluation, overall assessment of each Trimester, Assessment of Corporate Exposure Training, Project Dissertation, Overall assessment at the I and II years.

8.2. An Eight Point Grading system is adopted for evaluating the student in each subject.

The grades are awarded as below:

9.REQUIREMENTS FOR COMPLETION OF A TRIMESTER


A candidate who has fulfilled the following conditions shall be deemed to have satisfied the requirements for completion of a Trimester.
9.1 Ideally every student is expected to attend all classes and secure 100% attendance. However, in order to allow for certain unavoidable reasons such as Medical / participation in sports / personal, the student is expected to attend at least 85% of the classes.
Therefore, he/she shall secure not less than 85% of overall attendance in that Trimester taking into account the total number of periods in all courses put together attended by the candidate as against the total number of periods in all courses offered during that Trimester.

However, a candidate who could secure attendance between 75% and 84% only in the current Trimester due to medical reasons (hospitalization / accident / specific illness) or due to participation in the College / University / State / National / International level Sports events with prior permission from the Director shall be given exemption from the prescribed attendance requirement and he/she shall be permitted to appear for the current semester examinations.

9.2 Candidates who fail to attend classes in any Trimester (as per clause 9.1), will not be permitted to write the Trimester examination at the end of the Trimester. They are required to repeat the incomplete Trimester in the next academic year.

10. REQUIREMENTS FOR APPEARING FOR TRIMESTER EXAMINATION

A candidate shall normally be permitted to appear for the Institute examination of the current trimester if he/she has satisfied the trimester completion requirements and has registered for examination in all courses of that Trimester. Registration is mandatory for all the courses in the current Trimester for the Trimester end examinations failing which the candidate will not be permitted to move to the higher Trimester.

10.1 Specializations/Elective Courses :
PGDM program is a dual specialization program under which each student will study a total of 10 courses five in each elective. Electives will be offered in second year of the program during IV and VI Trimesters. In the IV Trimester the student will be studying two courses in each elective opted and another three each in the VI Trimester. The institute under its unique Industry Integrated Academic Training Program offers companies to specify two courses in the second elective area and offer them with the support of the companies in the VI Trimester. The specializations to be offered and courses of instruction will be determined by the Board of Studies for each batch. The electives will be offered after examining the academic capability of the student and the employability.

11. TERM END EXAMINATIONS

11.1 There shall be one Trimester examination of 3 hours duration in each lecture based course.
The maximum marks for each theory and practical course shall be 100 and after evaluation 50% marks are computed and remaining comprising of 50% marks will be awarded from internal assessment.
11.2 The evaluation of the Project work will be based on the project report and a Viva-Voce Examination by a team consisting of the supervisor, a common internal examiner and a common External Examiner. The internal examiner and the external examiner shall be appointed by the Board of Examiners .

11.3 At the end of practical training or industrial attachment, the candidate shall submit a certificate from the organization where he/she has undergone training and also a detailed report. The evaluation will be made based on this report and a Viva-Voce Examination, conducted internally by a Committee of Examiners p constituted by the Director .
11.4 If a student indulges in malpractice in any of the term end / internal examinations he / she shall be liable for punitive as prescribed by the Institute from time to time.

11.5 Internal Assessment: Internal Assessment will be based on
(i) Assignments/Field Studies/ Presentations
(ii) Weekly Test Marks
(iii) Class Test I and II Marks
(iv) Attendance
(v) General Behavior and Class Participation

11.6 The internal assessment component for attendance is as follows:
100 Percent attendance 5 marks in each paper
85-99 4 marks
75-84 2 marks
Less than 75 0 marks

12. PASSING REQUIREMENTS

12.1 A candidate who secures not less than 40% of total marks prescribed for the courses with a minimum of 40% of the marks prescribed for the term- end Examination in both theory, internal assessment and practical courses, shall be declared to have passed in the Examination.

12.2 If a candidate fails to secure a pass in a particular course it is mandatory that he/she shall register and reappear for the examination in that course at the end of the academic year along with Third and Sixth Trimesters respectively. Re-examinations will not be conducted at each Trimester level. He/she should continue to register and reappear for the examination till he / she secures a pass. However, the internal assessment marks obtained by the candidate in the first attempt shall be retained and considered valid for all subsequent attempts.


13. ISSUE OF MARK SHEETS
Individual mark sheet for each Trimester will be issued after the publication of the results.


14. ELIGIBILITY FOR THE AWARD OF THE DIPLOMA
14.1 A student shall be declared eligible for the award of the Diploma, if he/she has

i. successfully passed all the courses as specified by the curriculum corresponding to his/her program with in the stipulated time.
ii. no disciplinary action is pending against him/her.

14.2 The award of the degree must have been approved by the Academic Council.

15. CLASSIFICATION OF THE DIPLOMA AWARDED
15.1 A candidate who qualifies for the award of the DIPLOMA having passed the examination in all the courses in his/her first appearance within the specified minimum number of Trimesters securing an aggregate of not less than 70% of total marks (Internal assessment plus Trimester examination marks) shall be declared to have passed the examination in First Class with Distinction.

15.2 A candidate who qualifies for the award of the Diploma having passed the examination in all the courses within the specified minimum number of semesters , reckoned from his/her commencement of study plus one year, securing an aggregate of not less than 60% of total marks (internal assessment plus semester examination marks) shall be declared to have passed the examination in First Class.
15.3 All other candidates (not covered in clauses 15.1 and 15.2) who qualify for the award of the degree shall be declared to have passed the examination in Second Class.
15.4 A candidate who is absent in semester examination in a course / project work after having enrolled for the same shall be considered to have appeared in that examination for the purpose of classification.
15.5 Copies of the answer scripts for the theory course(s) can be obtained from the Controller of Examinations, New Horizon Leadership Institute on payment of fee specified for this purpose.

15.6 A candidate can apply for revaluation of his/her examination answer paper in a theory course, within 2 weeks from the declaration of results, on payment of a prescribed fee through proper application to the Controller of Examinations . The Controller of Examination will arrange for the revaluation and the results will be intimated to the candidate concerned through the Program Coordinator.


17. INDUSTRIAL VISIT

17.1 Every student shall complete two Industrial Visit Programs in an academic year.

18. DISCIPLINE
Every student is expected to observe discipline and decorum both inside and outside the institute and not to indulge in any activity which will tend to bring down the prestige of the Institute. In the event of an act of indiscipline being reported, the Director shall constitute a disciplinary committee consisting of three senior faculty members in the institute of which one should be from the faculty of the student, to inquire into acts of indiscipline and initiates disciplinary action The disciplinary action is subject to review by the institute in case the student represents to the Institute. Any expulsion of the student from the college shall be with prior concurrence of the Institute.

The Institute may from time to time revise, amend or change the Regulations, scheme of examinations and syllabi if found necessary.
